Halloween Parade

This year at Calahan we will be celebrating Halloween on October 31st. As a staff, we agreed that students should be allowed to dress up and celebrate Halloween in a positive way while at school. We will be having a Halloween Parade at 8:15 a.m. Classes will be sitting on the benches and bleachers, so we ask that you provide that space for the students. There will be no parent seating for the parade. Classroom numbers will be marked on the benches with grade levels sitting next to each other for the parade. We do not want students sitting on the ground with their costumes ruined. Please find your child’s classroom area and you can stand behind the benches.

We have several suggestions for parents to consider when planning for these festivities. Please select a costume for your child that is easy to change out of and does not support violence. Pretend blood or play weapons will not be allowed. Guns, knives, sharp objects, etc. will be confiscated as they are a violation of the no weapons on campus policy. Students will be able to wear masks for the parade only if it does not obstruct a student’s view. Masks if worn may only be worn during the parade. They can wear their costume to school and bring a change of clothes with them (or underneath their costume) or wear it all day, the choice is yours. Please keep weapons and violent costumes for Halloween night Trick-or-Treating festivities. Please be mindful that what is scary to a four-year old may not be scary to a 5th grader so please plan accordingly. We cannot be responsible if something spills on a costume that is worn all day or if parts of the costume are left behind.

The parade will take place at 8:15 a.m. and you will need to sign in at the front entrance to the school. Please have your child dressed in their costume as there will be little time to get ready in class in the morning. Please make sure that your child’s costume is something they can easily change out of by themselves and that it does not have any elaborate parts that could get lost. It would be easiest for them if they have a costume they could put on over their clothes. We will open the gates at 7:40 a.m. for students and at 8:00 a.m. for parents.

If you choose to not have your child participate in the parade because of personal or religious beliefs, please contact the classroom teacher to advise them. We will make sure that we provide a fun activity for all students who are not dressing up and participating in the parade in the school library with our librarian and YMCA staff.

We will hope for nice weather! In the event the weather does not permit us to go outside, we will be unable to have a parade.

With your help, we will enjoy a fun and safe holiday with your children. Thank you for your support and involvement. As a reminder, pets as part are also not allowed on campus.

This is also a reminder that we will have a minimum day on Friday, November 1st with school dismissal at 12:40 p.m.
